Not in the mood to laugh Tunes

As I seem to be suffering with a terminal case of the holiday blues today is definitely a Tuesday tunes day and not tickles!!

I thought I might just treat you all to another shot of my latest lyrical obsession and let y'all enjoy a little more 30 Seconds to Mars. The irony of the name is not lost on me given I am typing whilst watching the re-make of Total Recall and thinking about the original Arnie version!

My favourite song of theirs so far is Hurricane, unfortunately I seem to cry every time I hear it. Oh and even the censored version of the video is a little *ahem* Fifty Shades. Yes well if you want to see the extended version, video and all click here. Otherwise here is a PG version of lyrics only for your enjoyment :-)

What songs make you cry? Is there a reason or did it sneak up on you like this song did with me?

  1. Hallelujah but only when sung by Rufus Wainwright ( as in the first Shrek movie ) http://youtu.be/xR0DKOGco_o
Evelyn loved Shrek and we had the film on 24 hrs a day for her. It was on when she died. When the doctor arrived to certify her death, this was playing in the background. The song makes me cry as it takes me back to that gut wrenching pain and heartbreak but also smile through my tears because I can hear her little voice shouting "Shrek!"

    1. I was going to do a separate comment but I read yours Anna and just wanted to give you such a massive cuddle! I actually wanted to cry just reading your words ((huggles)) ...Sorry just doesn't seem to convey what I want to say.

That version of Hallelujah makes me cry too...It was a song stuck in my head when I went to the funeral of someone I considered my grandfather (he was a family friend). It's a beautiful song!

(PS - the most recent song to have me crying was Bon Iver - "I can't make you love me" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3VjaCy5gck).

    2. My heart aches for you Anna, it has been doing all through the holidays! I have to say I have never much cared for that song, but I don't think I will be able to listen to it, or watch Shrek, again with out a lump in my throat!

We all have a song that is linked to someone special we have lost. Sometimes I think a song just says it so much better than we can and a little of our grief is attached to it and contained. When we hear it we are allowed our moment to grieve.

I have a song that will always be linked to my Dad. The film Ghost was released around the time my Dad died. I would sit and watch it with Mum and we would cry together. Whenever I hear that song I remember Dad, I remember the times it was just me and Mum and I remember the good and the bad and everything in between.

Thank you for sharing Anna and Loki (I too tear up at that Bon Iver song, it speaks to my heart and all my insecurities!)

  2. Oddly, the song that plays during the credits of Land BEfore Time. Yep. That dino movie from 1986. I even cried as a little kid during the credits. Weirdest. Quirk. Ever.

  3. I have a playlist on my iPod called "songs for tears". My daughter asked why I'd put sad songs together, to which I replied, "I just feel like it sometimes."

    1. It always just kind of irritated me?!?!? If we were all the same life would be boring and there wouldn't be any shoulders to do our crying on!

  5. Hey! I just watched Total Recall last night and had all these thoughts about it...hmm. Interesting overlay of experiences. Song to make me cry? This one always, always gets me (and yet I could listen to it over and over): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LULmbLlPvVk
