That being said I had to find something to write about.....Hmmm writing, I should be doing that shouldn't I! Do we think I may have stumbled upon a topic?!?
I am by no means original in my procrastination! My little road trip usually starts with Facebook, with a very early pit stop at Twitter, just a quick diversion and back on the main road. Recently though I think I took a wrong turn on my highway somewhere! But there are so many interesting things on this turning that I am not sure I want to 'turn around where possible' like my GPS is telling me to! And she is starting to get a little demanding too.
I mean there is this wonderful little Aladdin's cave of a place called Pintrest. It is filled with such wonderful treasures you can get lost in pinning those wonders to to your boards. And just next door is tumblr, wonders of equal proportion! Dragging myself away I did manage to get back on the road at some point but then just around the corner was a giant neon sign pointing straight at Instagram and across the street Flickr, seriously there are some really cool photos on there. I could say floating around there is research, there are some really cool ideas for stories in those pictures, but I'd be lying!!
I wish I could say my procrastination ended there, that I took the things I have collected along the way and spun them into glorious stories. Bah, why would I do that when I have a bag under the cupboard with paper and watercolours and charcoal and .......
Why not sketch instead?
I have come to the conclusion that there is just not enough time to do everything we want to. Just not enough time to learn to draw and paint or become a decent photographer or even learn to play the guitar. At some point I have to prioritise, I have to work out what I want to do the most and run with that until I am happy with what I produce!!
What are your favourite distractions?
You've mentioned most of my distractions. .. Skyping and Facetiming with friends plus catching up on vlogging series (if you're into Jane Austen, you MUST check out The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on Youtube. Seriously. It's awesome.) ..
ReplyDeleteI like your sketches, Sleepy Joe. And I agree. ..there just doesn't seem to be enough time!
P.S. Thanks for linking up! (:
DeleteLa la la la la You shouldn't encourage me to procrastinate more!!
DeleteThanks for the comments about my sketch!!
Favorite distractions? Why that's easy. Visiting you, Sleepy Joe!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww, thanks Marianne!!
DeleteMy blog definitely is my favorite distraction. And my blog's statistics are too.
ReplyDeleteAnd if I'm blogging, then there is actually very little that distracts me, usually. But when something does, it's my email, or the postcrossing website, or Facebook. Or Pinterest, yes.
I should really avoid writing my novel at a computer with internet connection because I'll procrastinate the crazy out of myself. Or, wait, isn't that a good thing?
You see there really my blog is a distraction too, but one I love so who cares!!
DeleteYou and I are of one mind, dear lady. And once I mosey on over to Pinterest, it's all over. Should I be writing on both my novel and memoir? Yes. Should I catch up on all of my reading for my veteran's reunion this summer? You betcha. But I will, instead, probably be found pinning all the things.
ReplyDeleteSee now I need to find you over there and see what lovely things you have on display. It's like window shopping with no temptation to buy and feel guilty :-D
DeleteFacebook, blogger and pinterest are my little cul-de-sacs and I never turn around until it is too late! Like tonight for example I logged on for a little peep planning on finishing my blanket and hey presto 2 hours have nearly gone! So on that note its hello and goodbye until next time x
ReplyDeleteLol, between distractions and munchkins it's a wonder we achieve anything ;-)
DeleteMy current distraction is my 4 1/2 year old turning the lights on and off (as I try to type this comment) pretending to make x-rays like on his Leap Frog video. annoying as all get out, but cute.
ReplyDeleteNext it would be trying to get all of the plug ins to play together nicely on my site. Sucked up over 6 hours of my time the last 2 days.
You need to find some fun distractions ;-) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI have started at least 10 posts that are sitting there waiting to be finished. I'll start writing and then go back to a game on my phone and then flip over to fb and then back to the book I'm reading and then I'll text someone....
ReplyDeleteBooks, I forgot to mention the stacks of books on my shelves and the 3 I have started reading!! Hello btw!
DeleteI recently read that all art's a distraction to keep us from dwelling on our own mortality.
ReplyDeleteOuch. Think I'll keep being distracted.
That must be why I dive into so many branches of the arts then ;-) Thanks for stopping by!
